Atmospheric pollution

According to reports on Greek websites, nine out of ten people worldwide breathe polluted air.  The problem is particularly acute in regions of Asia and Africa, while in Europe there has been a particularly positive but small reduction in atmospheric pollution. Given that many cities in the European Union often still have levels of pollution above the limits permitted by the World Health Organisation and also that environmental pollution is a global problem and affects the entire population of the earth in the long run, will the Commission say:

  1. Is it aware of the unacceptable levels of pollution prevailing in many parts of our planet?
  2. Can it provide specific data on levels of pollution in European cities?
  3. What measures has it already been taken – and what additional measures will it take in future – to address this phenomenon without delay?
